Prague Food Festival 2012 to offer the most diverse programme in its history
The Czech Republic’s culinary event of the year, the Prague Food Festival
, will be taking place in
the Royal Garden at Prague Castle on 25–27 May. The motto for this year’s festival is “Think
global, eat local!” and there will be an incredible range of goodies to taste, providing a gastronomic
experience that is without parallel in this country. It will be held under the auspices of the First
Lady of the Czech Republic Livia Klausová
and the Mayor of Prague Bohuslav Svoboda
you may be lucky enough to meet in person on the opening day of the festival.
1. What to taste?
Frogs’ legs, Uyghur spices, pineapple ravioli, homemade sausages, king prawns, cannoli (Sicilian pastry desserts), fried beetles, organic goodies, alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, green barley, beer, wine, coffee, fresh juices and a host of delicious specialities – traditional and contemporary Czech, Oriental, Asian, French, Italian, Chinese, vegetarian and international.

2012 selection guides.
Delicious food prepared by dozens of the best restaurants featured in Maurer’s latest Grand
Restaurant selection guide will be on offer over the three days of the festival. Several of the
restaurants on this year’s TOP 10
will be taking part – Radisson Blu, Alcron and La Rotonde, V
Záti!í, Chateau Mcely, Piano Nobile and the overall winner Terasa U Zlaté studn" (Golden Well
Terrace). Among the restaurants appearing for the first time are Aureole, Na kopci, Chateau
St.Havel, U kon" and La Cucina Boscolo. The CzechTourism agency is also actively involved in
this year’s festival with its project “Taste the Czech Republic”
, which aims to promote traditional
Czech gastronomy. Czech Specials
will be able available for sampling and will also be featured in
an art performance (entitled “The Art of Czech Cuisine”) under the direction of Professor Martin
Mainer’s art studio.

pairing by the restaurants Terasa u Zlaté Studn" (Golden Well Terrace) and Aria Hotel, Coda and
Bacchus, a distributor of exclusive wines.
Some of the prestigious restaurants at the festival will also be using certified local ingredients, including organic fare and produce from the local farms that supply them. You can vote for the festival’s nicest farm at www.praguefoodfestival.cz.
The festival organisers and InterSpar will be providing commercial and moral support for Horsk#
statek (Mountain Farm) Abertamy, the winner of this year’s annual Czech Organic Food
competition. Abertamy’s tasty selection of cheeses – made with milk from cows, goats and sheep –
can be sampled at the Mí$ovna (Ball Game Hall). Support will also be provided for the winner of
the festival’s competition for the nicest farm.
7. Delicacy show with Whirlpool 6th Sense
Various brands of Czech and international delicacies will be on direct sale for the first time in the festival’s history:Fair Trade, Spar Premium, Country Life, Biopekárna (organic bakery) Zemanka, La Bottega di Aromi/Finestra and S#rárna (cheesery) “Sala! R#%ovna”There will be gastronomic workshops, free tastings and competitions with tasty prizes every hour.
You will be able to taste and buy Mammá
brand produce from small-scale Italian producers that
pride themselves on quality and tradition. The most delicious morsels from Andalusia will be
showcased once again by the Extenda
agency. You can also look forward to the Olive Variation
workshop presented by Enrique Sánchez
, one of the most well-known Spanish chefs. His
television show “Cómetelo” and his books on Andalusian cuisine have gained a lot of fans in Spain
and elsewhere. He will be showing festival visitors the many different, creative ways of using the
pearl of Spanish cuisine – the olive.
8. Wine and beer show at the Mí!ovna (Ball Game Hall)
Wine tastings supervised by Ivo Dvo&ák, 11-times winner of sommelier contests in the Czech Republic and the winner of the 2004 Habanosommelier contest in Havana.
Beer and food matching supervised by Václav Berka, the senior brewer at Pilsner Urquell.
9. Face to face
You will be able to see a host of culinary stars at the festival: the famous chefs Riccardo Lucque, Zden"k Pohlreich, Filip Sajler, Titus Eliá!, Jaroslav and Pavel Sapík, Roman Paulus, Milan Ho&ej!, Ji&í Král, Tomá! Kalina, Roman Dolej!, the butcher Franti!ek K!ána and the sommelier Tomá! Br'ha (three-times winner of the Czech Sommelier Championship and the editors of Apetit magazine.
Under the supervision of 2010 world champion beer pourer Luká! Svoboda, you can try your hand at pouring beer like a professional. The best beer pourer will be awarded the title “Pilsner Urquell PFF 2012 Apprentice Bartender”.
9. What else?
Live music from a Neapolitan band, Andalusian flamenco and a Cuban band (Santy y su Marabu). Star basketball player Tomá! Satoransk#, medal-winning Paralympian cyclist Ji&í Je%ek, a host of well-known actors and singers who are fans of the Prague Food Festival – such as Zlata Adamovská, Jana (t"pánková, Jitka Schneiderová, Marie Retková, Sv"tlana Nálepková, Jana Krausová, David (vehlík, Marek Taclík, Juraj Herz, Ji&í Menzel and many more!
